FROM THE MIND OF THE BLEEDING WOMAN

Source:google It’s another month, November. Time for my monthly records. I pick up my pen to record in my diary on how my life has been or should I say how my life has always been and still is, in the past month. Unfortunately, I have nothing new to write. It’s basically the same old story with, just different landmarks.

**** 'Emeka is that you?' I asked expecting otherwise 'Nope' answered a female voice.  Ha! I knew no girl, so who could that be. 'Who then?' I said getting up. 'It’s dera your classmate.' I didn’t know any dera but it would be rude bombarding her with questions with the door to her face plus I didn’t even know anyone in my class. I opened the door but it was so dark that I couldn’t see her face. 'Ah! It’s dark already, I didn’t know that. Please come in.' 'Thank you' she said stepping in. I was beginning to think that you were dead or something worse. 'What could be worse than dead?' 'I don’t know' she shrugged. I now remembered her. The overly outspoken girl in the class who somehow, always had her manners with her but would always interfere when not wanted. Emeka would write me down for not knowing her name. Everyone knew her because of her interference spirit. She had not interfered in my business...

“Now, if you fall among this category, please come forward. This might be your last chance.”  The voice of the minister trailed off  I had a push inside me to go out but I was too ashamed. I didn’t want people staring at me. The preacher had spoken directly to me but I was yet to understand how giving my life to Christ would solve everything, yet I couldn’t keep the urge to go out for the altar call away.

It was already a week to exams and I was still not in communication terms with Mr. Abari. Gladly, he had not acted rough towards me in classes. Emeka was getting tired with me not budging to go and see him. “He’d asked me to go and think about being only intelligent and that is what I am doing” I kept insisting.

It had been three weeks since lectures commenced for the new students and I still walked home alone. A lot of other people were already walking in groups. I never find it difficult making friends but this time I couldn’t just fit myself in. There was still a longing that made things different. Then one afternoon, I met Emeka. I was returning home from school on a Saturday evening and the sole of my shoe cut off. I needed to repair it but knew no shoe mender. It hadn’t even occurred to me the existence of shoe menders till that moment. Emeka stumbled on me dragging my feet along with the spoilt shoe, took me to a shoe mender within the school premises, haggled out a reasonable price and paid for me. We went home together and from that day on, we became friends. We returned from school together every day and he kept me informed. He took me to places I didn’t know how to get to. Helped me get things I didn’t know how to get. He was always helpful. One day, after school, on the w...

How could I forget! I wasn’t yet relaxed with my meetings with Abari but I didn’t like making bad or unserious impressions about myself. He was already feeling like I didn’t value him or his time and that was the last thing I needed Abari to feel over me even though I would prefer ending the lesson sessions regardless of the fact that it was helping me in my academics. I rushed into the bathroom and had something close to bathing and rushed out for school. Half way I remembered the assignment, how stupid of me to forget. I rushed back to get it and by the time I got to school, I was already an hour late. I was to meet Abari to submit the assignment he gave me and defend it orally before him but cancellation of lectures made me forget all other engagements. I ran from the school gate to his office and thankfully he was still around. I stood for minutes outside his office trying to regularize my breathing. I knocked and he beckoned on me to come in. I stepped in and greeted h...
